Meet Arlene Lammy
Becoming a doula was more than a career change for me, it was an act of showing up for myself as well as those around me. In 2019, I attended Shafia Monroe's Full Circle Doula training, completing certification requirements over the next year. I have been an educator for several years, initially studying Secondary Education at Syracuse University and then becoming an Early Childhood infant teacher. My immersion into the health and family services field was deepened when I witnessed the birth of my nephew. My transition from teacher to doula enriched my passion for serving my community. Doula work is a sacred role that I honor through my heritage, education, and community building with clients.
As the daughter of Caribbean immigrant parents, I was raised on the motto "it takes a village", and know firsthand the comfort and love of being surrounded by one. New Wave Perinatal Services was created from the desire to bridge the gap between ancestral traditions and modern family life. I am dedicated to the care and support of all birthing people and feel called to empower parents to make educated decisions.
In 2017, I earned my Child Development Associate in Infant Development. I completed a mentorship with Boston based doulas in 2019, also studying HypnoBirth and Spinning Babies techniques. It is my honor to walk with you during your perinatal journey and support your magical and unique process.

Do doulas catch the baby?While we love to see baby’s grand entrance and cheer you on through every surge, nope, we don’t catch babies. That’s for your doctor or midwife, or even YOU to do! Doulas are non-medical care professionals. I will be at your side or wherever you can best see me.

What if my partner wants to give hands-on support?That's fantastic! Doulas are a part of your birth team, and we are here to support partners, too! This is a transition for everyone and my suggestions focus on holistic approaches that support what is best for your total self. My support is for the entire family. Parenthood is a sacred and special role that is uplifted by your tribe's assistance. I’m here from the beginning to help build your village (and role model a good hip squeeze!)

Is doula support covered with insurance?Unfortunately, no, doulas are not covered as providers. The services, however, can be paid for with most HSA/FSA plans or even via insurance reimbursement.

Do you attend births at various locations?Yes! I will be there at home, in a birthing center, or a hospital. Your birth, your location.

Where do you serve?The Greater Boston area including all of the North Shore, and areas south of Boston. Anywhere that is generally a 30 mi radius from Beverly, MA. I have attended births in the home, as well as the following hospitals: Beverly, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women's, Cambridge, Masschusetts General, Melrose-Wakefield, Mount Auburn, Newton-Wellsley, St. Elizabeth's and more.

What if you're unavailable when I go into labor?Doulas need support, too! We learn from each other, pair up, and often collaborate on workshops and training. It is essential we cover one another to ensure clients have full support no matter of life's hiccups or emergencies. Although I work in solo practice I am proud to have my village, too - there are doulas I know and trust who are available at any time in case I cannot be with you or have to be replaced.
